Two landscapes. One path. A hidden world of wonder.

The Wetland & Woodland Wander at Illawong Nature Reserve invites you to slow down and tune in. This 1.5–2 hour guided walk takes you across a quiet 2.2 km loop — a living cross-section of biodiversity where ancient riverbed meets claystone ridges.

With your guide leading the way, you’ll start at the ponds — one of the best spots to observe the dramatic transition between ecosystems. From there, the path meanders through shaded bushland with gums, banksias, and native grasses underfoot, then dips toward the wetland fringe where butterflies, wallabies, turtles, and fungi thrive.

Keep an eye out for bird nesting boxes high in the trees, bloodwoods glistening with red sap, and signs of yellow-bellied gliders. Midway, you’ll stand beneath a giant — the second-largest gum tree in New South Wales with an 11M base diameter.
